Hi ***! This’s letter #6, a reply to yours from 22/01; 29/01; 05/02. I was impressed by your stories about the literature club. It’s so simple... Why hasn’t this become popular yet. (Rhetorical question).

Since last time I’ve read the book «Napoleon Bonaparte» by Albert Zakharovich Manfred (what a name, haha). I realized that I had previously known this subject very superficially. In our textbooks, he is described as a disaster for our people (which is true), and that’s all, you don’t need to know the rest. Out of curiosity, I study the knowledge of the subject among my interlocutors, asking myself the question «is it just me who doesn’t know anything or is it like this for everyone».

I suggest you take a short test to test your knowledge of the subject. Questions: 1. Was Napoleon a republican or an autocrat? 2. Did Napoleon lose battles before Waterloo? 3. Was there freedom of the press in France under Napoleon? 4. Napoleon did not risk his life in battles, is this true? 5. Napoleon executed two of his marshals for plotting an assassination, is this true? 6. Napoleon was never wounded, is this true?

The most remarkable thing about this whole story, in my opinion, is his second rise to power, known in history as the «Hundred days». After his defeat in Russia, he was exiled to the island of Elba, and power was seized by King Louis XVIII, the brother of Louis XVI, who was executed by the revolution. He ruled so lousily that in just one year he turned all of France against him. This allowed Napoleon to carry out a mini-revolution without firing a single shot. He marched on Paris, and all the troops sent to meet him by the king joined the rebels. Then Waterloo happened. Louis XVIII was brought back. Despite Napoleon’s defeat, the monarchies were deeply impressed by how fragile their power was, how accustomed people were to the bourgeois system. The king gave the constitution. As I understand it, modern French people revere Napoleon largely for this chapter in history. Without wanting to, he gave impetus to liberalism. This was not the end yet, then the king tried to take away the constitution, there were still rebellions and revolutions.

I read the legendary book «Sapiens» by Harari and was deeply impressed. Human climbed to the top of the food chain due to imagination. Progress is irreversible. Everything that is possible is natural, and in general this concept came from Christianity, it had the meaning — in accordance with God’s will. The whole culture consists of contradictions: the Crusaders, violating the commandment «thou shalt not kill», American politics with its incompatible equality and freedom, etc. There is no authentic pure culture, wherever you poke, you will get into the imperial legacy. There is no free market separated from politics and never was. In the future, human will direct his technological power to combat the consequences of his economic activity. You can disagree with all this, but it is useful to get acquainted with.

It seems that I will soon be moving to another institution. I hope there will be a FSIN letter there, and we will not get lost. I started eating less and doing abdominal exercises, and I’m getting abs. I’m doing fine.
